ALL CHANGE AT THE AGM
In between the buzz of activity generated over the three-day John Smith’s Grand National meeting at Aintree in early April some 40 members attended the Annual General Meeting on Saturday.05 April in the media centre.
Geoff Lester duly resigned as President following a four-year term in office and he was unanimously replaced by Will Hayler who has now taken over the reins.
There were a number of other changes to the make up of the committee with David Carr now occupying a new role of membership secretary and he will be keeping subscriptions and members records up to date. A reminder that annual subscriptions at the new rate of £25.00 were due on 01 February. Jan Green retains responsibility for the overall financial matters of the Association.
Three new members are welcomed to the Committee – Steve Cargill, Martin Kelly and Mike Vince. Mike Cattermole and Brent Dolan have also decided to step down from the Committee and thanks to them for their efforts in the past.
A Committee meeting is planned for the second-day of the York Dante meeting in May when other issues raised at the AGM will be progressed and a members newsletter will be produced and circulated to provide a Spring update.
The 2009 AGM of the Horserace Writers and Photographers Association will continue the tradition of being be held at Aintree on Grand National morning.
Memorial
The HWPA is supporting the memorial 'The Steve Boggett "Celebration Of Life" Handicap' at Thirsk's evening meeting on May 10 for the friends and family of Steve who sadly passed away in 2007 following a lengthy illness. The Association will also provide a commemorative trophy.
Derby Awards
The 42nd Annual HWPA Blue Square Derby Awards lunch will take place on Monday, 01 December 2008. Tickets for this sell-out event will be on sale to current HWPA members from August onwards
