The HWPA
The HWPA was founded in 1927 and reconstituted in 1967 with the aim of improving working conditions for all media professionals on Britain's racecourses. It provides a link for all other professional bodies within the sport who wish to enlist the assistance of the media in promoting aspects of their work and in improving the smooth running of major meetings.
The HWPA currently works closely with the Racecourse Association, the joint committee being responsible for such matters as the issue of annual metal badges, the improvements in press facilities and the lay-out and equipping of press rooms.

Tipster Competition
For a long time, it looked as if it would go down to the pennies as Tony Coleman and David Cleary fought out a tense final furlong for the 2008 Blue Square tipping contest.
Going into the final round at Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting Cleary held a lead of just 74p, but it was Coleman who came home the stronger as his rival failed to find a significant winner over the final two days of the action.
56 HWPA members enthusiastically took part in the 2008 competition and details of the 2009 renewal will be available in the next members’ newsletter.
Final placings:
First Tony Coleman
Second David Cleary
Third Adrian Hunt
Fourth Ian Clark
Fifth Paul Jacobs
Sixth Steven Cargill

Our thanks go to the staunch supporters of these events, Blue Square and Skybet. We plan to hold golf days again in 2009.
